How Much Protein You Need on a GLP-1
Losing weight quickly without enough protein costs you muscle. Here is the target, and how to hit it when your appetite has collapsed.

Weight on a scale is not one thing. Some of what you lose is fat and some is lean tissue, and the ratio between them is largely determined by protein intake and resistance training.
The number
Roughly 0.7 grams per pound of goal body weight per day. Someone aiming for 160 pounds should target about 112 grams. That is a floor, not a ceiling.
Hitting it on a reduced appetite
- Eat protein first at every meal, before carbohydrates or vegetables.
- Use liquid protein when solid food is unappealing.
- Spread intake across three meals rather than concentrating it at dinner.
- Keep prepared options available for days when cooking is too much.
Why it matters after you stop
Muscle is metabolically active tissue. Lose a significant amount and your maintenance calories drop, which makes regain considerably easier. Protecting lean mass while losing fat is what makes the result durable.
Two people can lose the same 30 pounds and end up with completely different bodies and completely different odds of keeping it off.
